Welcome to Rockfest HQ, your information access point for the latest news and band reviews for this year's Biloela Rockfest.

March 13, saw the Queensland Heritage Park Complex come alive with the sounds of the 7th Annual Biloela Rockfest. This year's event promised to be bigger and better than ever with a diverse music line-up, including Cold Chisel tribute band Chisel Revived, entertainment for all ages with the antics of the mechanical bull, and the launch of the first ever Biloela Rockfest CD.

That promise was kept, with the spirit of Rockfest sounding out loud in the face of lower crowd numbers and the threat of rain.

A sum total of $22,000.00 was invested into this year's event, with the Committee attempting to address a number of concerns arising out of previous events, whilst ensuring that every one was catered for.

So, did the Biloela Rockfest Committee achieve what it set out to?  That question can be answered with a resounding yes.  This year's Rockfest provided a feast for the ears, with the best band line up since the event's inception in 2004.

The Biloela Rockfest initially answered the need for a showcase of local bands and youth talent.  Having achieved this goal by providing over 35 local bands the opportunity to play their music to a live audience over the years of the event, it became evident that Rockfest needed to develop and expand its initial focus in an attempt to satisfy community demands.  Hence the move, this year, to contract a headline act.  A decision that the Rockfest Committee stands by . . . Chisel Revived were a definite crowd pleaser.

So, in light of the low crowd numbers, was the investment worth it?  In an economical sense, no.  Whilst the Committee is committed to staging a high calibre event, low crowd numbers have impacted heavily on the economic viability of the event.  We have, unfortunately, had to use funds that we keep in kitty for future events to cover the costs associated with this year's event.  This obviously poses the Committee with a huge stumbling block in getting the next event off the ground.  We will not only need adequate sponsorship and donations, we will also need the community's full support (shown via attendance at the next event) to accumulate the necessary funds to ensure the sustainability of the event.

The Committee has set the bar fairly high this year, and we obviously don't want to reduce the quality of the event, or the entertainment we provide, so we will be looking at an investment comparable, or higher, than that invested this year.

What next for the Rockfest Committee?  The Rockfest Committee are committed to further developing the event to meet community expectations and to continue placing a spotlight on the talented youth that form our local bands.  The full potential of Rockfest is yet to be seen.  So, with further community support, and constructive feedback, the Committee will set forth with a plan to seek out appropriate funding and sponsorship to assist in the staging of the event.  Once this has been done, the Committee can then review the feedback received before setting a format for the next event.
